“Meeting Point 3”
The way we view the world around us is increasingly determined by media images and advertising. A universal landscape, stripped of friction. Public spaces, as well as the people in them, are beginning to resemble one another, while individual visual identities are fading. We have become prototypes. Large scale images show perfect people in homogenous environments, ranging from office park landscaping to shopping mall. In impeccable compostions, bathing in tranquil white light. The images are seductive, but at the same time hollow and superficial. Like anonymous pawns in a board game, the individuals have been placed to interact with objects. The result is a series of timeless images, incorporating 21st Century ingredients. “Meeting Point 3” is a work from the series “Meeting Point” is a collaboration of Elsbeth Struijk van Bergen, photographer & Rem van der Zee, digital artist.
Elsbeth Struijk van Bergen was born in 1967 and Rem van der Zee in 1963. They both studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam. In 2009 they received a grant for “Meeting Point” by the Netherlands Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture.
