“Central Valley Color Chart”

“Central Valley Color Chart” is an image taken from a larger body of work utilizing photographic tools as subject. In this image, the landscape is disrupted by the color chart placed in the center of the frame. Normally used as a calibration device for post-production work, the color chart draws focus to the mechanics of image capturing, as well as a reminder of the photographer’s presence and workflow while in the field. By interrupting the visual space of the landscape, the camera is turned in on itself, restructuring the mode perceiving the image. Jeff McLane was born in 1984 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He currently lives and works in Los Angeles, California.
