“You Can’t Fence This”
This scene was photographed in Atlanta, GA, using the iPhone 5 in panorama mode. The breaking apart and reassembly of the fence occurred during the exposure. None of it was rearranged to create the final image. It is one of many repeatable effects (depending on the subject matter) that I have been experimenting with over the past year using the iPhone panorama mode. Only the color, contrast and a handful of unruly pixels were manipulated using Photoshop CC.
I graduated with a BA in Photography from the University of Alabama in 1980. The manipulation of an image, whether in the processing of film, making prints in a darkroom or hand-coloring black-and-white prints, always guided my vision towards a more surreal or almost dreamlike quality that became more distinctive than the original scene that I captured. When I discovered Photoshop in 1995 it opened a new door to the level of craft, precision and creativity that I continue to explore every day.
